Celtic Soars While Rangers Struggles Persist: Key Market Value Changes in Scottish Premiership Players

Market Value Update: 86 Players See Changes in Scottish Premiership

The Scottish Premiership has released its latest market value update through Transfermarkt, reflecting the performance dynamics over the past three months. A total of 86 players across the league experienced fluctuations in their market values, with the majority of clubs witnessing increases. Notably, Celtic recorded the most significant rise, with their squad's value jumping by €6.5 million.

Celtic’s Continued Rise

Celtic's squad is now valued at €130.2 million, representing a substantial €50.8 million lead over their city rivals, Rangers. The club's impressive performance in both domestic and European competitions contributed to multiple player value increases. Forward Daizen Maeda stood out among the group, enjoying a remarkable €3 million rise in his market value, now totaling €11 million.

Maeda's pivotal role in Brendan Rodgers’ squad this season has been crucial, with his performance solidifying his place as a key asset. Joining him in the list of value gains, Nicolas Kühn’s market value rose by €2 million to €12 million, while Paulo Bernardo saw an increase of €1.5 million, bringing his value to €6 million. Other first-team players like Arne Engels, Alistair Johnston, and Jota also received €1 million increases each due to their consistent performances.

Stefan Bienkowski, Lead Content Manager for Transfermarkt UK, remarked on the implications of Celtic's European success, stating, “Celtic’s dominance in the Scottish Premiership is something fans of Scottish football have come to expect, but it was the club’s success in Europe that led to notable upgrades.”

However, the update also indicated that several back-up players, such as Liam Scales, Maik Nawrocki, and Anthony Ralston, saw their market values decrease by €500,000 each. Moreover, experienced players Callum McGregor and Jeffrey Schlupp each faced a €1 million drop in their valuations.

Rangers’ Struggles and Signs of Potential

In contrast to Celtic’s upward trajectory, Rangers find themselves navigating a challenging season. With a 16-point gap separating them from their rivals, Rangers recently parted ways with manager Philippe Clement, appointing Barry Ferguson as interim manager. This tumult has been mirrored in the market valuation of several first-team players, including Nedim Bajrami, Ridvan Yilmaz, Danilo, and Robin Pröpper, each experiencing a drop of €500,000. Bienkowski noted the difficulties Rangers face, stating, "It’s clear that Rangers are in the middle of a difficult rebuild. While they did manage to move on many older players last summer, some senior figures in the squad continue to frustrate fans."

Despite the struggles in the Premiership, Rangers have shown resilience in the Europa League. Young prospects like Mohamed Diomande made strides, with his market value climbing by €1 million to reach €7 million. Others, such as Jefté and Hamza Igamane, enjoyed increases of €1.5 million each. Additionally, Vaclav Cerny, who was loaned from Wolfsburg and has excelled with 17 goals and seven assists, saw his value rise by €1 million to €9 million.

Emerging Talents Across the League

Beyond the top two clubs, several players from other Scottish Premiership teams also experienced increases in their market values due to commendable performances. Dundee’s Lyall Cameron, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder, saw his value increase by €500,000, now standing at €1.5 million, thanks to his impressive stats of 10 goals and eight assists this season.

Over at Dundee United, Sam Dalby’s value rose by €425,000 following a stellar season marked by 13 league goals. Kilmarnock's 19-year-old striker Bobby Wales also saw a €300,000 increase, bringing his value to €400,000. Meanwhile, impactful performances from Hibs’ Nectarios Triantis, St Mirren’s Evan Mooney, Hearts’ James Wilson, and Dundee United’s Luca Stephenson highlighted the influx of young talent making a mark in the league.

Understanding Transfermarkt Market Valuations

The market values published by Transfermarkt are determined through a thoughtful process that incorporates various pricing models, community input, and detailed evaluations by members of the Transfermarkt community. It is important to note that these valuations do not directly equate to actual transfer fees but rather represent an expected value within a free market context.

As the Scottish Premiership continues to unfold, player market values will likely evolve in response to ongoing performances, managerial changes, and broader league dynamics.
